Can Dogs Eat Mango? NZ Safety Answer

11 June 2026

Can dogs eat mango in NZ? Plain ripe flesh only in small pieces. Remove skin and stone, and avoid dried sweetened mango.

Quick answer

Plain ripe mango flesh may be okay in small pieces, but remove the skin and stone. VCA advises feeding only the pieces of fruit you would eat and discarding the rest, because indigestible parts can cause problems.

Why

The main household risk is the stone, skin, big slippery chunks, dried sweetened mango or fruit salad mixed with grapes. Mango is sugary, so it should be occasional, not a daily add-on.

If your dog ate it

Contact your NZ vet, after-hours emergency clinic, or SPCA for advice.

Safer alternatives

Safer options are tiny pieces of plain, prepared fruit or veg your pet already tolerates, or part of their normal complete food used as a treat. Keep portions small and avoid sweetened, salted or seasoned versions.
