Overview
The Tasman Manx is a highly unique and rare breed developed in New Zealand and Australia. It originated from spontaneous recessive mutations within Manx litters, resulting in cats that not only carry the characteristic taillessness (or short tail) of the Manx but also possess a distinct, wavy, curly "rex" coat. Named after the Tasman Sea, this breed represents a fascinating regional development, offering a curly-coated counterpart to the classic Manx.
NZ ownership fit
Loyal, intelligent, and famously dog-like in behaviour, the Tasman Manx is an adaptable and playful breed that integrates seamlessly into Kiwi families. They are active jumpers due to their powerful, longer hind legs and enjoy interactive games like fetch.
Care priorities
Due to the genetic mutation responsible for their taillessness, Tasman Manx cats can be prone to "Manx Syndrome," which affects spinal and bowel development. It is vital to purchase from ethical breeders who screen their lines. Their unique curly coat needs regular brushing to prevent tangles, especially in the longhaired version (sometimes called the Tasman Cymric).
