Overview
The Scottish Longhair is the long-coated, straight-eared member of the Scottish breed family, combining the round face and plush look of the Scottish Fold with a semi-long coat. Some overseas registries use the names Highland Fold and Highland Straight, but the NZCF Scottish Longhair standard covers straight-eared cats only; a folded-ear longhair is not a Scottish Longhair under NZ rules. Expect a round face, large round eyes, and a ruff, britches and plumed tail that give an owlish look.
NZ ownership fit
Known for mellow, quiet and affectionate personalities, Scottish Longhairs are classic lap cats. They are adaptable, usually get on well with children and other pets, and prefer a peaceful indoor home where they can stay close to their people.
Care priorities
The semi-long coat mats easily and needs brushing at least two to three times a week. Because the breed is straight-eared, it does not carry the fold mutation behind Scottish Fold osteochondrodysplasia; still, keep an eye out for any stiffness, and use a quality diet and portion control to keep weight in check.
