Overview
The Tiffany (specifically the Asian Semi-longhair recognized by the NZCF, often spelled 'Tiffanie' in the UK) is the semi-longhaired variant of the Burmilla. It was developed from crosses between the Burmese and the Chinchilla Persian. It is important for New Zealand owners to distinguish this breed from the Chantilly-Tiffany, which is an unrelated American breed. The NZ Tiffany features a silky, semi-long coat with a distinct silver or gold undercoat and dark shading or tipping, paired with expressive green eyes and a fluffy plume-like tail.
NZ ownership fit
Tiffanies are affectionate, gentle, and relatively quiet cats, making them highly adaptable to apartment living and excellent family companions. They love human company but are less demanding and vocal than their Burmese ancestors, offering a perfect balance of playfulness and calm affection.
Care priorities
The semi-long coat of the Tiffany is fine and silky, lacking a heavy undercoat, which makes it resistant to severe matting. Brushing two to three times a week is sufficient to keep their coat in beautiful condition. Ensure they are kept indoors or have a safe outdoor enclosure, and provide regular vet checkups to monitor their dental health.
